PTSD and Epigenetics

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is an emotional disorder that can result from a variety of different traumatic experiences. It is commonly caused by military combat experiences, childhood and adult physical and/or sexual abuse, and sometimes accidents, divorce, or the death of a loved one. 

The science of epigenetics is relatively new, and is showing us that though we are born with a certain "blueprint" in our DNA, that "blueprint" is physically impacted and changed by some of our life experiences. Very simplistically put, both good and bad experiences place "markers" on your DNA, which can not only affect how you respond to stimuli in the future, but can also potentially affect how your children conceived after the event respond. So, the good news is that negative markers, caused by PTSD-inducing traumas, can potentially be reversed by subsequent positive experiences like, perhaps, cuddling sessions.
